Our work

Setting organisations up for success

We’ve developed more hands-on experience helping organisations shift to shorter working hours than anyone else. From private sector businesses, to charities, not-for-profits and even the education sector, we’ve built a wealth of experience working in a range of different contexts.

Leading change in the public sector

We are the Scottish Government’s expert partner for their ongoing public sector shorter working week pilot. We’ve helped design a working time reduction strategy for the Valencian Government, and scoped out options for a public sector trial in Wales for the country’s Future Generations Commissioner.

Keeping an international outlook

Our experience stretches far beyond the UK: we’ve worked with organisations, large and small, to trial shorter working hours in a number of European locations. We’re currently offering expert guidance to companies taking part in a new four-day week pilot scheme in Belgium.

What our clients say

Deloitte (Lukasz Madej, Managing Partner)

“Before embarking on our journey towards implementing a shorter work week, we knew we needed a reliable partner to guide us through the process. Autonomy proved to be that perfect partner, offering expertise and support that were invaluable to our success. Their dedication was evident from the start, ensuring that every team’s voice was heard through comprehensive meetings, workshops, and surveys. The evaluation and analysis of the collected data were thorough and insightful.

Thanks to Autonomy’s team meticulous approach and unwavering professionalism, we were able to navigate this complex transition smoothly. Their contributions were crucial in helping us make informed decisions about the future. We’re thrilled to say that, with their help, we have now adopted a shorter work week as a permanent practice. Will, Kyle, thank you for your exceptional support!

Big Potato Games

“Before we took the plunge and dived into the uncharted waters of a four-day week, we knew we’d need a grown up to hold our hand throughout the trial. Autonomy were the perfect calming influence, bringing rigour, professionalism and a sense of calm to the process. Thanks to Will and Kyle we did everything by the book and came out the other side confident that a 4-day week was the way forward for us as a company. Cheers guys!”

STOPAIDS (Mike Podmore, Director)

“[Autonomy’s] support in the development of the policies and practices needed to ensure our 6 month pilot was as successful as possible was very helpful. They were highly attentive to our needs in their advice and evaluation, as well as being efficient and a pleasure to work with. We consider the shorter working week to be a success on many fronts so far and we have extended the initial 6 month pilot by another 6 months, so that we can be fully assured of the results, which currently demonstrate improved productivity and staff wellbeing.”

Centre for Local Economic Strategies (Sarah Longlands, CEO)

“Autonomy’s expertise during our four day week trial was invaluable in helping us to support our team, ensuring that everyone’s voices were heard. Their evaluation and analysis of the data including workshop, survey and timesheet data helped us to better understand the impact of the four day week for our work at CLES. It has also been crucial in helping us and the CLES Board of Trustees to make informed decisions about the future and excitingly, we have now introduced the four-day week as a permanent way of working!”
